My Major Taylor Obsession

It started on Facebook last year in December when I saw this post about a biography of Major Taylor, a bicycle racer from the 1890s. Being an avid cyclist and someone who loves history, I took the bait and ordered the book from our local Turnrow bookseller.

NOW HEAR THIS. You can definitely judge this book by its cover. The sub-title; “The Inspiring Story of…” is a certified huge understatement! Before I had even gotten halfway through it, I ordered five other books on Major Taylor.

Not a cycling fan? Not a history buff? No worries. This book, this story has so much more to offer and, I dare say, it will grab hold of you to read about Major Taylor, the allies who had his back, the enemies he encountered, the depth of his humanity, the faith he lived by, the fascinating forgotten era of the 1890s and much, much more. Hollywood movie material to the max.

After reading a 2nd biography, I was inspired to go on a mission to spread the word. As the saying goes, “beware of the converted”. Hang on. More to follow.
