Teardrop Camper, almost!

In the spring of 2017, I found myself imagining retirement years filled with travel across the country visiting national parks. Lots of hiking and camping with my wife, Christie, in places we have always wanted to visit. Sound familiar? Not really an unusual plan and one that seemed very feasible. Well, that was before I went down a rabbit hole “building a teardrop camper from a kit”.

The kit was purchased from a company in Maryland called Chesapeake Light Craft (CLC) and, with help from friends, construction began in June 2017 (see video). The project continued into that winter and we built an enclosure inside the unheated building. Adding portable electric heaters to the enclosure, work continued, but at a slower pace. Eventually my interest waned as the friends helping me had other priorities pulling them away from the project. Later, my sister and brother-in-law from Indiana dedicated several days to work with me and tried to get the camper finished. That was over a year ago.

Since then, I have only had the energy to transport the 90% completed camper out of the rental space and to my driveway where it sits today. With no motivation (or anyone to push me), the camper is likely to remain idle and unfinished. After several months in that state, the new plan is to offer it for sale and put it all behind me.

When I totaled the cost of everything I purchased, it came to $6,521. “Everything” includes the base kit, trailer and all the items listed in the image below. Plus, I have a slew of miscellaneous materials (glue, sandpaper, clamps, etc) that are all important to complete the build. Anyone seriously interested should go to the www.clcboats.com website and verify the accuracy of what I’m publishing here.

Check out the CLC website at www.clcboats.com for more info.

What is it worth? How much do I want for it? While I don’t expect to recoup the money and labor I’ve invested, so I will offer it deeply discounted to part with it sooner, rather than later. This is a camper for a young person(s) or a project for a Boy Scout troop.

Below are photos of the camper as it looks December 4, 2021 and my asking price. Anyone with genuine interest should contact me by either method below.
